**Mark D. Retter, PhD, LLM, LLB**


Dr Mark D. Retter is an international legal scholar whose work focuses on international law, legal theory, human rights, and peace processes. He is affiliated with the University of Cambridge, where he has served as a Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and as a Senior Project Manager and Research Fellow with the Cambridge Initiative on Peace Settlements.


A former Gates Cambridge Scholar, Dr Retter completed his doctorate in International Law and Legal Theory at the University of Cambridge. His research explores the ethical and philosophical foundations of international legal order, with particular interest in human rights, natural law, Thomist-Aristotelian legal philosophy, and the role of law in conflict resolution and peacebuilding.


Dr Retter has contributed to major international research initiatives, including the ESRC-funded *Legal Tools for Peace-Making* project, and has collaborated with the United Nations Mediation Support Unit on developing innovative approaches to peace negotiations. He has also co-edited the Cambridge University Press volume *International Law and Peace Settlements*.


His work combines rigorous legal scholarship with practical engagement in international peace processes, making him a respected voice at the intersection of legal theory, human rights, and international dispute resolution.
