Professor Tom Angier is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cape Town, where he teaches and researches in ethics, legal and political philosophy, aesthetics, and the history of philosophy. He holds two doctoral degrees, one from the University of Cambridge and another from the University of Toronto, and has held academic appointments and fellowships at leading universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Africa.

His research is centred on the philosophical foundations of law, morality, and human rights, with particular expertise in Aristotelian and Neo-Aristotelian philosophy, virtue ethics, natural law, and classical Greek thought. Professor Angier has published extensively on these subjects, exploring how classical philosophical traditions continue to shape contemporary debates on justice, ethics, legal reasoning, and public life.

In addition to his work in moral and political philosophy, Professor Angier has made significant contributions to aesthetics and the philosophy of art. His scholarship is characterised by a commitment to careful historical analysis combined with engagement in contemporary philosophical questions, bridging ancient philosophical insights with modern legal and ethical challenges.

Through his teaching, writing, and public engagement, Professor Angier continues to contribute to international discussions on the relationship between philosophy, law, and the common good, bringing a distinctive interdisciplinary perspective to questions of justice, human dignity, and ethical responsibility.
